DVC Villas at the Grand Floridian

dvc grand4

On my last trip to Disney in October, I was lucky enough to stay in the newest DVC units at the Grand Floridian (newest until the ones at the Poly opens, anyway!).  These are housed in a separate building from the main Grand building, just a short walk away.

When you enter the building you are greeted with a beautiful fountain, decorated with Mary Poppins penguins.  Everything looks and feels so new.  I know some people aren’t fond of the themeing of the Grand, but I love that Victoria style era, and Mary Poppins fits in perfectly (elements for the movie occur again in the room décor).

We had a 1 bedroom villa, and the first thing that you saw when you walked in was the kitchen.  And it was a beautiful kitchen!  There’s a fridge, oven, cabinets – everything that you could possibly need.  The kitchen has a little nook with a table and chairs for eating as well.  If you go to your right when you come in there is a small hallway that leads to the bathroom, and in that hallway you’ll also find a washer and dryer.

The signature resorts restaurant tournament winner is…

ohana

It was down to Jiko and Ohana.  Both are great restaurants with a lot to offer, and both are extremely popular.  But only one could be crowned the winner.  After an extremely close vote, the closest we’ve ever had, the winner is…

Signature resort restaurants – Final round

resort-restaurants-part-2-round-4

We’re down to the last two in this restaurant tournament!  It was insanely close between the last two match ups – both of them were decided by just one or two votes.  While Victoria and Albert’s is probably technically the best restaurant on the list, I’m not surprised it didn’t quite make the cut just because many people haven’t been able to try it due to the price.  So that leaves us with Jiko and Ohana!  Which one do you prefer?

Signature Restaurants Resorts Tournament – Round 3

It’s down to only 4 restaurants left – and they’re all pretty outstanding in my opinion!  Hard to choose a favorite, but that’s what this is all about.  So tell me, out of these match-ups, which are your favorites?  Jiko or California Grill?  Ohana or Victoria and Alberts? (Two totally different places, for sure!)

Let me know your votes by either commenting here on the blog or posting on our facebook page!

Signature Resorts Restaurant Tournament – Round 2

The votes from the first week are in – did your favorites make the cut to the next round?  There were some pretty close match ups, especially between Narcoossee’s and Yachtsman!  But here we have our top 8.

This week we have some even more difficult match ups, so make sure you vote for your favorites to stay in the running!  We’ve got 4 match ups to vote on, so comment here or on our facebook page with your favorites in each match-up!

Signature Resort Restaurants Tournament – Round 1

It’s finally time for another restaurant tournament!  This time it’s the signature restaurants at the resorts.  I have a feeling this one is going to be really tough, because there are just so many good ones!  This tournament will actually include both signature and character dining at the resorts.  We’ve taken care of most of the other restaurants at Disney in various tournaments: We’ve already done Epcot (Le Cellier won), the three other parks (Be Our Guest was victorious), Downtown Disney (Raglan Road), and non-signature resort restaurants (Sanaa).

All you have to do to cast your vote is to comment on this blog post, or comment on the facebook page.  Please try to place a vote for each match up, even if you haven’t eaten there – it’s just for fun, so take a guess at which one you would like more, or choose which one sounds more appealing to you!  For this first round, you should have  7 restaurants listed (Victoria and Albert’s gets a free pass into the second round).

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and any comments you might have on the restaurants!

Art of Animation review

art of animation

On my last trip to Disney World, I was lucky enough to stay in the newest resort – the Art of Animation.  This is classified as a “value” resort, but unlike many of the other values, they consist of mostly suites.  If you’re not familiar with the resort, it’s broken up into four sections: Cars, the Lion King, Finding Nemo, and the Little Mermaid.  Cars, Lion King, and Nemo are all family suites that sleep up to six people, while the Little Mermaid is your standard value room sleeping up to 4.

My husband and I stayed in a Lion King suite with another couple.  When you first come into the room, there is a small area with a table and chairs.  This table actually unfolds into one of the three beds in the suite.  A little further in is the living room, which has a couch that also unfolds into a bed.  There is a bathroom off of here as well.

Disney Resorts Restaurant Tournament: And the winner is…

sanaakona

It came down to two solid restaurant choices – Sanaa vs. Kona Café.  Both serving unique cuisine in some of the most popular resorts.  But which would win: the African influenced foods at Sanaa, or the tropical tastes of Kona?  Here’s your winner…
