Today I have a guest post up at another Disney blog, Inspired by Dis. Over there you can read all about how I upcycled my old Christmas cards to turn them into gift tags to use for next year. There are even some Disney ones thanks to the people that sent out Disney Christmas cards! To my friends and family, expect to see some of these tags on your gifts next year!
Last year my mom found this adorable Mickey gingerbread house at Cracker Barrel, which of course she bought for me. We finally got around to putting it together this year, and I’m so pleased with how it came out! It’s like your typical gingerbread house, but it has some cute little Disney touches included, such as Mickey shaped candies to decorate the house and little cardboard windows with Mickey and Minnie in them.
It’s a fun and easy little Christmas project that brings Mickey into your home too! They also have a gingerbread version of Cinderella’s castle that we have – I’ll be making that one next year!
One of my favorite items at Disney around the holidays is Christmas ornaments! They are a fun way to add Disney into your holidays, and they also make great souvenirs from the parks. Whether you get them from Hallmark, Disney World, or the Disney Store, there are so many wonderful ones to choose from I wanted to share my favorites!
When you decorate your home for the holidays, do you add a bit of Disney into the mix? Lots of people do, and today I’m featuring the ways that some of our readers have added Disney into their homes for the holidays! Disney sells lots of holiday stuff, but there are other unique ways you can add a little “Disney in your Day” during the holiday season!
Make your own Disney holiday decorations! Reader Tammie made her own Mickey Christmas wreath for the holidays. How adorable is that? If you’re interested in doing the same, you could adapt the tutorial that Michelle shared with us on how to make your own Fall Mickey wreath.
Jenn’s mother-in-law made these super cute stockings! They look really professional, but I’m sure there are easy ways you could make your own with supplies from a craft store.
I’m going to be sharing a post later this month on making your own Disney snowflakes. I love cutting out paper snowflakes, and making them Disney related is even better!
Convert Items from the Theme Parks
Have you ever visited Disney during the Christmas season? If so, maybe you picked up some souvenirs, or other items that you might not have thought to use to decorate your home. Here, some readers share their creative ideas on reusing Disney items.
Julianne puts her Mickey popcorn bucket on display during the Christmas season – and adds a light on the inside to make him light up, too! Brilliant!
After a brief hiatus last month, I’m excited to jump back into Kill, Refurb, Marry with this month’s topic: souvenir shops! I love a good souvenir, so it definitely took some thinking for me to decide which ones I would kill, refurb, and marry. It was really tough! There’s tons of souvenir shops in Disney, many of which I love, and many of which I think they could do more with. I’m sure I might end up changing my mind, but for now, here are my choices:
Kill – Marketplace Fun Finds
This place in Downtown Disney in basically the “bargain bin.” Normally I love places like this, because I love a good deal. However, this just feels a little depressing and not at all a good value. They stuff some of the typical stuff in here that just happens to be $20 or less. It would be a lot better if they used it to sell clearance or discontinued items are lower prices, not the same overpriced souvenirs that are all over the place.
I feel like a lot has been happening lately in the world of Disney! Some interesting and exciting announcements have come out about both the parks and films. And as the holidays approach, there are always fun things happening!
Disney in your Day News
We are right in the middle of another restaurant tournament – this time for signature and character dining! If you haven’t placed your votes for Round 2 yet, be sure to check that out now. I’m also in the middle of Glass Slipper Challenge training, and though it’s a little rougher than last time I’m still getting through it. I have two more running related reviews to put up, both of which I’m super excited about. And there will certainly be some holiday themed posts coming this month!
I don’t know about you, but I definitely prefer to spend Black Friday in the comfort of my own home, away from all of those crowds of people out at the shops. But with the internet, I still get to shop – I just enjoy the wonders of online shopping! Disneystore.com has some good deals this year that you can order right from your own computer, and I wanted to share them with you. Here are some of my favorite items that are available for purchase. Not only are they already discounted, but you can save an extra 20% with the code “THANKS”.
These are great for all ages – kids will enjoy them as a toy, and adults like them as collectibles. I have the first edition Belle in her blue dress, but they are just so adorable I would love more!
Almost all of the plushes are on sale, starting at $5 – but in particular these holiday plushes are really cute and perfect for the season. They make great Christmas decorations!
It was always a dream of mine to be able to visit Disney during their Christmas season, so I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to go this year from December 11-16! The Christmas festivities were in full swing, but it wasn’t quite so crowded yet so we were still able to do a lot of the rides and other things we wanted to do. We didn’t get to do everything – there are still some things I didn’t do that will have to be saved for another Christmas season trip (Candlelight Processional, and seeing the gingerbread houses at the Grand Floridian). Here are some of the highlights from our visit this Christmas:
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Main Street is decorated very nicely even during the day, but it’s at night when you’ll see the best parts. It “snows” on Main Street, but the highlight is the gorgeous icicle laden castle. Simply stunning, especially during Holiday Wishes. During the holiday party you also get free hot cocoa and cookies, a number of shows and dance parties, unique charater meet and greets, and a special holiday parade.
