March 2015 monthly round-up

February was an exciting Disney month for me as I got to spend a week down in the world!  Our trip was packed with races, great food, fun times, and even a trip over to Universal to visit Diagon Alley.  Expect to see lots of blog posts about various things from my trip.  Big Hero 6 also just recently came out on DVD (I still have to pick up my copy!).  And finally, we are gearing up for the Flower and Garden festival, which I will be attending in April!

enchanted 10k

My Enchanted 10k recap is up on the blog, but there will be lots more to come from my week in Disney, including a recap of the Half Marathon, some dining reviews, how I made my running costumes, and more.  Anything in particular you’d be curious to hear about?  I’m also still blazing my way through that Disney bucket list and will continue to post updates on that!  We are planning to go to Disneyland in September, so I may also be posting some planning stuff.  Finally, I’m still making my way through the Disney movies – just finished Peter Pan so I’ll have my thoughts on that up shortly!

My Disney “must eat” list

When it comes to Disney, one of my favorite things is food.  Whether it’s a quick snack or a fancy sit down meal, I love all that the parks have to offer.  I religiously read the Disney Food Blog, and pin items I want to try on future visits.  But I thought it might be easiest to have a place where I can compile all of the things I want to try!  On these lists I’ve included items I have tried that I feel are “must try” for others, as well as ones that I haven’t tasted yet that I’m drooling just thinking about it!  So without further ado, here are the items on my Disney “must eat” list:

Magic Kingdom

resort-restaurants-part-2 round 2

We are right in the middle of another restaurant tournament – this time for signature and character dining!  If you haven’t placed your votes for Round 2 yet, be sure to check that out now.  I’m also in the middle of Glass Slipper Challenge training, and though it’s a little rougher than last time I’m still getting through it.  I have two more running related reviews to put up, both of which I’m super excited about.  And there will certainly be some holiday themed posts coming this month!

Disneystore.com Black Friday deals!

I don’t know about you, but I definitely prefer to spend Black Friday in the comfort of my own home, away from all of those crowds of people out at the shops.  But with the internet, I still get to shop – I just enjoy the wonders of online shopping!  Disneystore.com has some good deals this year that you can order right from your own computer, and I wanted to share them with you.  Here are some of my favorite items that are available for purchase.  Not only are they already discounted, but you can save an extra 20% with the code “THANKS”.

Disney Animator Dolls

belle

These are great for all ages – kids will enjoy them as a toy, and adults like them as collectibles.  I have the first edition Belle in her blue dress, but they are just so adorable I would love more!

Holiday Plush

Almost all of the plushes are on sale, starting at $5 – but in particular these holiday plushes are really cute and perfect for the season.  They make great Christmas decorations!

September 2014 monthly round up

Happy September!  It’s one of my favorite months of the year.  To start things off it’s my anniversary (we will be celebrating 3 years on the 3rd!), and it’s also one of my favorite times of year to visit Disney World.  We went for our honeymoon and it was so empty we hardly had to wait for anything.

Disney in your Day news

SnowWhite6

I just recently started re-watching all of the Disney animated features, in order.  I’ll be posting some thoughts on each one (Snow White is already up!).  So look for one of those to come every 1-2 weeks.  The Tower of Terror 10 miler looms ever closer, as does my trip to Disney.  It will be a trip of many firsts – first 10 mile race, first time at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, and first time at Food and Wine!  I can’t wait!  Finally, I would love to finish our restaurant bracket with the signature resort restaurants.  I think this will be a toughie because there are so many fantastic ones out there.  I’ll be interested to see the results!

Lesser Known Disney treats

Most Disney fans, even casual ones, know the big snacks they have to try while they’re there: Dole whip, Mickey bar, Mickey shaped pretzel, turkey leg, zebra domes and school bread from Norway, to name a few (and if you haven’t heard of those, that might need to be its own separate blog post!).  In fact, some of these snacks are so popular they now have their own merchandise!  However, Disney offers a ton of great snacks, and while those famous ones are delicious, sometimes you just might want to try something new.  So here are some of the “lesser known Disney treats” that you might want to consider ordering on your next visit!

Hot Fudge Cookie Sundae

I saw a friend post a picture of this on her facebook and knew I had to try it.  I love ice cream, and combine that with cookies and you’ve got an unbeatable snack!  I hadn’t heard much about it until I saw that picture but I would love to try it on a future visit!  This is in the Magic Kingdom, at Storybook Treats.  Read about it on the Disney Food Blog.

Gourmet Cake Cups

Also in Fantasyland you can find Alice in Wonderland themed Cake Cups at the Cheshire Café.  They are like cupcakes, but they’re served in a cup like a parfait, so that the icing and cake is in layers.  The White Rabbit is white chocolate icing with yellow cake, while the Queen of Hearts is a strawberry shortcake one – that’s what I want to try!  Read about it on the Disney Food Blog.

July 2014 Monthly Round Up

Wow, I can’t believe it’s July already!  Though the weather definitely has me believing it – 93 degrees today in Pennsylvania!  I can’t even imagine what it must be like in Disney now.  This month is going to be busy for me, with the show I’m currently in (Footloose) performing the last two weekends in July, and rehearsals already beginning for my next show!  I like to stay busy!

resort-restaurants-part-1 round 2

Speaking of busy, there’s been a lot going on with the blog recently!  We are still finishing up some of the reviews and giveaways for the Disney Running Gear Guide – I have about five or six left, though I’m open to more if anyone has something they’d like reviewed.  I’ve also started a new weekly series to keep track of my training for the Tower of Terror 10 miler.

And then the Disney restaurant tournament is back!  We’re doing the first part of the resort restaurants (non signature/character dining resort restaurants).  We’re up to round 2, so make sure you cast your vote for that!

Disney News

into the woods

  • We’ve had lots of classic Disney movies turned into live action films, and the most recent one announced is Beauty and the Beast.  No details yet like a release date or casting, though rumors are flying!
  • Did you know that there are PhotoPass Photo Booths in Disney World now?  Capturing Magic featured them in a recent blog post!
  • Another Disney movie coming up is based on my all time favorite musical, Into the Woods.  The composer, Sondheim, recently shared some of the changes they’ll be making for the film.  I have to say I’m definitely disappointed.
  • A new show about conservation is coming to the Animal Kingdom!  It will be called “It All Started With a Mouse” and will take place at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

May 2014 monthly round up

April showers bring May flowers, right? I can’t wait for that! May at Disney brings the end of Flower and Garden festival, and introduces Star Wars weekends! We also expect to see the opening of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.  And even if you won’t be in the theme parks, there’s still some Disney to look forward to – Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, will premiere at the end of this month.

disney running gear guide

The biggest thing that has been happening here on the blog is our Runner’s Gear Guide and giveaways!  I’ve been able to feature some great Disney running related products, as well as give away a number of them.  Plus, there are many more to come this month as well.  In the next month or two I’m also hoping to bring back the Disney restaurant tournament, with what I feel may be the hardest category yet – Resort Restaurants.  Finally, I got to see Aladdin on Broadway a few weeks ago and I will be sharing my thoughts on that quite soon!
